Electrical Engineering Degrees

Electrical engineers make an average salary of over $70,000 per year—even though the electrical technicians often perform the “grunt” work. If you have been working as a technician for less than half the pay of an electrical engineer, but recognize that you have experience and electrical know-how, perhaps it’s time to enhance your own promotion opportunities by earning the piece of paper that would give you the designation “engineer.” continued below »

Schools offering Online courses:
Devry University provides a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree program online.  In this program, students learn through a mixture of informative classes, laboratory assignments, and mentoring relationships with professional engineers.  Topics such as distributed systems design, wireless systems design, embedded systems design, computer systems design, embedded systems design, network systems design, multimedia systems design, and neural network design are covered.

Polytechnic Institute of NYU offers an M.S. in Electrical Engineering program that is designed to prepare students for electrical engineering positions in industry, business, or government. Polytechnic offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that includes telecommunications, electrical power systems, digital signal processing, electromagnetics, electrophysics of materials, and more.

In as little as two years, you can be on your way to a new and exciting career in Electrical Engineering Technology. Penn Foster Career School offers an online Associate degree program in Electrical Engineering Technology. Students learn the fundamentals of electricity, electronic measurement, electric motors, basic drafting, pulse/logic circuits, and controls.

Drexel University Online offers a M.S. in Electrical Engineering degree program. This program prepares students with the knowledge and skills they need to advance into leadership roles within the electrical engineering field. Coursework includes Computer Engineering, Power Engineering, Solid State Physics, Controls, Signal Processing, Robotics, Telecommunications Engineering, and Electronics, and more.

Electrical engineers design systems and solve problems related to electricity, electro-magnetism and electronics. Engineers have the option of working with large motors or industrial applications or of working with small applications such as computers and circuit boards. Because computer electronics is such a large field in and of itself, many education programs now have separate categories for electrical engineering and electronics engineering.

Electrical engineers usually work in comfortable offices or well-equipped laboratories. Although some perform outside work, many spend most of their time at a desk or computer where they design new electrical components for industries, solve electrical problems. A starting salary of $30,000 and up is common with experienced engineers receiving from $70,000 a year to over six figures. The actual salary will depend on your education, experience, and on the size of the company.

While you can find a job as an electrical technician with only an associate’s degree, to be hired as an engineer, you need at least a bachelor’s degree. Like other fields, however, engineering has become so complex and so specialized that you may discover that you need a master’s degree or at least some additional certification in specific applications. Fortunately, you can achieve that without leaving your current job through the many fine institutions that offer their degree programs through the internet.

The traditional electrical engineering degree requires 4 to 5 years of study. Using an online program, you may be able to complete your degree in as little as three years. Of course, in most states, you will still need to take a test and obtain professional certification.

Online engineering credits are also a convenient way for engineers to earn the required continuing education credits that are required by many states in order to maintain your certification. Instead of taking time off from work to complete continuing education courses, you can take them online, often at a fraction of the cost.
